Next APE meeting on Friday 8 July 2011
The next meeting of APE will be on Friday 8 July 2011 at 11am at London College of Communication. All members have been advised, but if any Higher Education institution, organisation or professional individual is interested in the aims of APE, and wishes to attend, or enquire about membership, please contact the Secretary.
UK APE Dissertation Prizes Winners Announced April 2011
The winners of the UK APE Dissertation Prizes have been announced to coincide with the London Book Fair 2011.
Two prizes were awarded, a first prize of £300 and a second of £200, and both went to students from London College of Communication (LCC): to Zoe Foster for a postgraduate dissertation on self-publishing, and Hanna Lubin for an undergraduate dissertation featuring a case study of Saga Magazine, the magazine for the over 50s.
The judges - John Whitley of the PTC (Chair), Lynette Owen, Simon Winder and Dan Franklin - commented on the high standard of submissions and range of subjects which reveals the diverse body of serious thought about publishing, its past, present and future development, going on within UK universities.

The 8th International Conference on the Book takes place at the University of St Gallen, Gallen, Switzerland between 6-8 November 2010.

The Kingston Annual Publishing Conference, over two days in early September, has Self-Publishing as its 2010 theme.
UK APE Dissertation Prizes Winners Announced 16 April 2010
The winners of the first ever UK APE Dissertation Prizes have been announced to coincide with the London Book Fair 2010. Two prizes were awarded, one at undergraduate level, a second at Masters' level, and each winner receives a cheque for £250.
Laura Kincaid of Edinburgh Napier University wins at undergraduate level for 'Are publishers in control? An examination of the power dynamics of UK consumer trade publishers' relationships with Amazon', and Jennie Courage of UCL wins at Masters' level with ‘Making e-books easy for everyone to read - Accessibility and the visually impaired'.
The judges - John Whitley of the PTC (Chair), Martin Neild, Lynette Owen and Simon Winder - commented on the high standard of submission.
Publishing Innovation Conference at LCC 18 March 2010
The MA Publishing student-led conference at London College of Communication, which is sponsored by Macmillan, has as its theme for 2010 the terms of exchange - free or paid - for content between content creators and publishers within the book and magazine publishing sectors in the digital landscape.
