June 2010: At a meeting in London, called by core group organisers Liz Thomson, Diane Spivey, Gill Davies, Jon Slack and Jo Henry, the shape of this Project was debated. The conclusion was that this was to start life as a wiki/open access site where people could upload evidence about imprints. This core hub would then also begin to collect hard archival evidence, which would begin to preserve materials not currently being saved or collated. The working title for the project is Colophon: The Book Trade Archive and Community Project. Three strands to the project were identified - Content, Archive and Community. Content is information contributed by trade people to the website; Archive, existing documents and Community, the ability to connect website users so they can talk to one another. Content is the area to concentrate on first, in the simplest way possible - eg one ‘page' per company/imprint even if at first that page is simply a marker which connects to another company page. Four groups will be formed to work on these 3 strands, from within the original team of organisers: Archives, Content, Funding and Technical.
